Essential Steps Before Changing Nameservers to VergeCloud
Considerations
- Verify A Records and Their IP Addresses: After registering your domain in the VergeCloud User Panel, the first action is to confirm that the A records have been transferred correctly and that the associated IP address is accurate. Ensure that the IP address linked to the A record corresponds to the main server hosting your website. If there are any discrepancies, update the IP address to reflect the main server's address.
- Define Additional Records: If you have other records such as MX, TXT, etc., set them up in the DNS Records section of the VergeCloud User Panel. Typically, cPanel or DirectAdmin hosts also act as DNS servers. If you are utilizing these, reach out to your hosting provider to obtain all domain records. For organizations with their own DNS server, review your DNS server settings and add any defined records in the VergeCloud User Panel under the CDN Product, Records Management section. If you prefer to use your own nameserver, you can also utilize the NS customization feature.
- Change Nameservers: update your nameservers in the administration panel of the website where you purchased your domain (e.g. godaddy.com, bigrock.in, name.com, etc.) to the nameservers provided by VergeCloud in the DNS Records section. The order in which you enter these nameservers does not affect functionality.
Important Notes
- Propagation Time: After changing the nameservers, it may take some time for the updates to propagate across DNS servers globally. Domains with
.com
or .org
TLDs typically update within 5 hours, while other TLD domains may take up to 48 hours. - Pending NS Change Status: If, after updating the nameservers, you see "pending NS change" instead of an active status in the VergeCloud User Panel under the Cloud DNS Product Dashboard, it indicates that the nameservers have not yet been updated across all DNS servers worldwide. This process usually requires some time. To verify whether the nameserver records for your website have been updated globally, you can use the
dig
or nslookup
commands, or check with tools like DNS Checker and WhatsMyDNS.net. Once the nameserver records are fully updated, your website will automatically change to active status.
