How to Change Nameservers (NS) on Name.com

How to Change Nameservers (NS) on Name.com

If you're pointing your domain to a new hosting provider, CDN, or DNS service, you’ll need to update your domain’s nameservers (NS records) in your Name.com account.

This guide walks you through the steps to change nameservers safely and correctly.

Prerequisites

  • Access to your Name.com account

  • The new nameservers provided by your DNS or hosting provider

Steps to Change Nameservers on Name.com

1. Log in to Your Name.com Account

2. Go to the Domain Dashboard

  • After logging in, you’ll be taken to the Dashboard.

  • Click on the domain name you want to update

3. Access Nameserver Settings

  • On the domain management page, look for the Nameservers section

  • Click "Edit Nameservers" or a similar option

4. Enter Custom Nameservers

  • Choose the option for Custom Nameservers

  • Enter the nameservers provided by your new DNS or hosting provider
    Example:

    • ns1.donuts.com

    • ns2.donuts.com

  • You can add more if required (some services provide 3–4 nameservers)

5. Save Changes

  • Click Save to apply the changes

  • You may receive a success message or a prompt to verify the change

DNS Propagation Time

Once changed, nameservers can take up to 24–48 hours to fully propagate across the internet. In most cases, changes start taking effect within a few hours.

Important Notes

  • Ensure that all necessary DNS records (A, MX, CNAME, etc.) are set up with your new provider before making the switch.

  • During propagation, your site or email services may behave inconsistently if the setup isn't complete.

Example

You are moving DNS to VergeCloud and they provide:

    • ns1.donuts.com

    • ns2.donuts.com

You would:

  1. Log in to Name.com

  2. Select your domain

  3. Choose Custom Nameservers

  4. Enter the VergeCloud nameservers

  5. Save your changes
