Steps to Activate Cloud Icon for VergeCloud

Checks Before Activating Cloud Icon For Domain

Once you've transferred your website to VergeCloud and updated your DNS settings, there are a few steps to complete before activating the Cloud icon for the records in the VergeCloud user panel. These steps will help ensure everything functions smoothly:

1. Whitelisting VergeCloud IP Addresses:

When you enable the Cloud icon, your website’s main server will only connect to VergeCloud’s edge servers. This means user requests will be routed exclusively to VergeCloud’s edge servers and not directly to your website’s main server. To prevent security devices or firewalls from mistaking requests from these IPs as potential attacks and blocking them, it’s important to whitelist VergeCloud’s IP addresses. Follow these instructions to whitelist the addresses:

2. Configuring HTTPS:

If you have already purchased and installed an SSL certificate on your website’s main server, you need to upload your certificate file (.crt file) and private key (.key file) in the HTTPS Settings section of the CDN user panel. To avoid errors when users visit your site in different browsers, ensure you include the certificate along with the chain file. Use these links to obtain the chain certificate file:

  • How to obtain a certificate with a chain via a browser
  • How to create a certificate trust chain

If you don’t have a certificate yet and prefer to use VergeCloud’s free certificate, this must be done before activating the Cloud icon. Note that the certificate will only be issued if your domain’s active phrase is registered in the VergeCloud user panel under the Cloud DNS section (i.e., NS records are successfully set). To obtain a free VergeCloud certificate, navigate to the CDN product in the user panel, go to the HTTPS Settings section, and enable the VergeCloud Certificate option.

3. Port Configuration:

By default, the connection between VergeCloud’s edge servers and your website’s main server can be established over both HTTP and HTTPS, depending on the user’s request. If port 80 or 443 is closed on your origin server, ensure that before enabling the Cloud icon, you go to the CDN product in the VergeCloud user panel, open the Origin Settings section, and select the appropriate protocol (HTTP or HTTPS) based on which port is open on your server.

4. Security Settings:

Before activating the WAF service, it is recommended to first set WAF to detection mode for a brief period. This allows you to review and adjust the WAF rules based on the reports generated. You can use this guide to configure and adjust WAF settings:

  • WAF Configuration and Settings in VergeCloud Panel

5. Configuring Page Rules:

In the VergeCloud user panel, within the Content Distribution Network (CDN) product, ensure you define rules in the Page Rules section for any pages that should not be cached. By default, only your website’s static content will be stored on VergeCloud’s edge servers. You can set rules to either store or exclude certain content from caching. These instructions will guide you in making the necessary adjustments:

6. Final Check on VergeCloud Edge Servers:

Before registering the NS records provided by VergeCloud on your domain provider’s website, verify that there are no issues with your website’s load and ensure the correct cache status for files on VergeCloud’s edge servers. You can follow these instructions to confirm that VergeCloud CDN is properly activated before updating the NS records.
