How to Use Reports and Analytics on VergeCloud for Website Insights and Optimization

Reports and Analytics

Reports & Analytics

The monitoring and reporting section of VergeCloud CDN enables you to review and analyze the traffic metrics and DNS requests associated with your website. This section includes geographical location reporting, traffic analysis, error analysis, status analysis, and DNS requests pertaining to your site.

Glossary

  • Traffic Metrics: Data that reflects the amount of traffic to a website, including user requests and interactions.
  • Geolocation Reporting: Analysis of the geographical origin of traffic based on IP addresses.
  • Cached Requests: Requests that are fulfilled from stored content in the CDN rather than the original server.

Real Usage Scenarios

For instance, a business owner can utilize the reports to determine which countries generate the most traffic to their site. This information can guide marketing strategies and server resource allocation based on geographic demand.

Field/Option Descriptions

Data Characteristics

The data used for analysis and reporting in VergeCloud is characterized by the following:

  • All reports analyze traffic proxied by VergeCloud (traffic associated with domains or subdomains indicated by the cloud icon).
  • DNS reports cannot be presented in CNAME setup mode.
  • Reports for traffic that does not pass through CDN PoP sites are not available.
  • If VergeCloud Authoritative DNS is enabled on your domain, but the cloud icon is off, only DNS reports will be accessible.
  • VergeCloud determines the origin country of requests based on the IP address of each request.
  • Reports are available in 3-hour, 6-hour, 12-hour, 24-hour, last week, and last month intervals.

Traffic Statistics

This area collects and analyzes user traffic, including two types of requests: cached requests fulfilled by CDN servers and uncached requests sent to your main server.

This dashboard allows you to monitor the volume of cached content and the traffic saved over time. The higher the amount cached by VergeCloud, the fewer requests your server must handle, freeing up server resources.

The traffic analysis section presents the following metrics:

  • Cached: Content that has been stored on VergeCloud's servers, allowing users to access it directly.
  • Missed: Content that is not cached, necessitating retrieval from the main server.
  • Bypass: Content that is never cached, leading to all requests being directed to the main server.

Be aware that the traffic reports from VergeCloud may differ from those generated by other analytics tools, such as Google Analytics. When the CDN identifies a unique IP address for a request, it counts it as a hit. Consequently, the number of visitors reported by VergeCloud might be higher than that of other services.

Filtering Reports

To enhance reporting accuracy, VergeCloud allows you to filter reports by hosts and the desired time period. This feature enables you to analyze a specific subdomain over a defined time frame (up to one year).

For example, you can examine traffic metrics for a subdomain, such as a user forum, over a five-day span, along with insights into the amount of cached traffic.

The filtering capability is available for users on growth, professional, and enterprise plans.

DNS Statistics

The number of DNS requests is reported according to time and geographical location in this section.

This report is also accessible for domains not utilizing VergeCloud CDN.

Error Statistics

The error analysis section provides insights into the frequency and type of errors over time.

You can also review the specific types and numbers of errors associated with each route and IP address.

This section is valuable for quickly identifying disruptions or potential attacks on your website.

Location Statistics

This section of VergeCloud identifies the countries from which requests and traffic originate, using the requesters' IP addresses and displaying this information on a map.

Additionally, you can review a list of countries sending requests to your website/application, organized by the number of requests and traffic volume.

Response Statistics

This area allows you to monitor the response time of your main server over time.

Status codes can be viewed in a summarized format based on time intervals.
